Letters to the Editor

Thank you: Local thrift shops

Do you know there’s a place to buy some trendy Christmas presents while donating to charity and supporting community and global sustainability all at the same time?

Check out our local thrift stores where smart shoppers can purchase earth-friendly recycled gifts (and wonderful holiday decorations) at bargain prices. And proceeds stay in our local area to support less fortunate people (and animals) in our neighborhoods.

Some thrift shops offer gift certificates that customers can buy for needy families, their own children or best finicky friend. A $10 certificate will bring a great adventure of exciting choices to a child while teaching math skills plus constructive and caring consumption. Send your husband to the “man cave” and your best friend will no doubt find a vintage dress, a needed casserole dish, or gorgeous painting on sale.

We are grateful to the generous people who donate lovely clean and useful items and to volunteers who work tirelessly to sort and display these wonderful second-hand treasures. Also, thanks to those wise and creative shoppers who know how to make their purchases a win-win for real joy in giving this Christmas.
