Look at these bills: Medicare vs. private insurance

My wife and I recently had to have the same procedure done at a doctor’s office. My wife is covered under Medicare and I have private insurance through my employer. The cost charged to my insurance company was almost twice that of my spouse. Is there any explanation other than greed from both providers and private insurance companies? Why should there be different rates for the same procedure? Is anyone awake?
