Health care votes not about health care
I recently received a response to an email I sent U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham about the Republican health care bill. Here is his response, which pretty much says everything about the hypocrisy of what is going on in Congress.
“I voted ‘yes’ on the Obamacare ‘skinny repeal’ amendment early Friday morning. I want to be clear, this was not a great piece of legislation — far from it. It was bare-bones legislation which did not meet my goals of repealing and replacing Obamacare.
“I made it clear before the vote that it should never become law. But after speaking with everyone from President Donald Trump to Vice President Mike Pence to Speaker Paul Ryan to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, I was assured it would not become law, but rather serve as another step in the legislative process.”
How does one ethically vote for something that he says never should become law? Especially considering who Graham is putting his trust in. Who in their right mind would trust anyone who is pushing to get a bill/law passed while at the same time “assuring” people behind closed doors that such a bill would not become law?
If this is Congress’ definition of ethics, no wonder our country is in such a mess.
Clearly, the Republican agenda was not about better health care. It was about getting even with Democrats, and Americans are the losers. Our tax dollars are wasted on childish political games.
