Don’t blame the mayor because Riley wants to leave

I’d like to comment on David Lauderdale’s “Game of Thrones” column.

I don’t side with Mayor David Bennett or town manager Steve Riley. You’ve got two government officials who need to get their job done professionally. From what I see, they both get their job done pretty well. It appears Riley would like to leave Hilton Head Island. So be it. Let Riley move on, but don’t blame the mayor for Riley’s decision to leave.

Part of the job of town manager is to get along with many entities. If Riley can’t handle personality differences, he has the wrong job. I’m assuming the cities interviewing Riley aren’t giving him the authority to elect new mayors. I’m sure there is someone in our town government who finds it hard to work with Riley but we aren’t hearing about all of their job interviews.
