Public needs more explanation of school credit cards

Regarding your article on July 21 about credit card spending by the Beaufort County School District, it seems to me that Superintendent Jeff Moss is fully responsible for the thousands of credit card transactions unexplained to the public.

Charges made for woman’s undergarments, faculty Christmas celebrations or taco banquets are minuscule when we are looking for $30 million charged on 52 credit cards in the last fiscal year. That is about $600,000 of taxpayer money per card. Yet the district will not pay $210 (10 hours work at $21 per hour) to allow us to know how much was spent on each card.

Moss says that a forensic audit of credit card spending will be discussed and considered at the next finance committee meeting. Well, thank you, Mr. Moss, for looking out for the folks who pay your salary.

Something smells fishy here.
