Five reasons Hilton Head is ruined
In response to David Lauderdale’s column, “Has Hilton Head Island been ruined?” here are five reasons why Hilton Head is ruined:
1. There are basically three things to do here. Golf. Go to the beach (which is murky and infested with jelly fish during the height of summer). Drink and eat at restaurants. Drinking is encouraged during all aforementioned activities.
2. Most of the island is private and gated. Only the privileged may enter or explore this island, which is roughly twice the size of the island of Manhattan.
3. The governing body and the chamber of commerce are up to no good, with behind-closed-door dealings and secret agendas with their cronies.
4. Bluffton and the U.S. 278 corridor are basically a long stretching shopping mall. No culture. No focus.
5. No available and affordable housing for workers.
Every year, dozens of Jamaicans and Russians pack slum apartments to subsidize the work force, so you can golf and drink and dine and golf and drink.
And drink.
