Letter: It’s not the trees, it’s the roots

I thought the trees were lovely here in Beaufort until seven of my neighbors’ trees fell on our house and property during Hurricane Matthew.

The problem is not too many trees here, it seems, but the roots on these trees cannot support them from falling when there are wind gusts.

Since my insurance company had to pay more than $7,000 to remove them, then my insurance will be notified about any potential trees on neighbors’ lots that may or may not fall next time.

Then they may want to move to Texas.
