Letter: Talk straight on hurricane taxes

What is wrong with this picture? Beaufort County has $26.6 million in reserves, the estimated costs of Hurricane Matthew cleanup after FEMA’s responsibility is a net of $10 million to $18 million, ergo we might need an increase in property taxes?

If reserves are not useable for a 1,000-year storm, what would be its proper use?

Obviously, reserves need to be renourished over the years.

We have just survived an election where straight talking supplanted spin and yet here we go again. If taxes need to be increased, explain exactly why and do not try to justify using non-applicable reasoning.
