Letter: Bill McBride a model for others
On Mr. McBride’s Retirement from County Council
Beaufort County will lose a true public servant upon the retirement of Bill McBride from County Council.
As a former county employee, I have had the opportunity to watch Mr. McBride for more than 14 years on council and many committee meetings. He has always shown his professionalism by his support, not for his own agenda, but for the agenda for the people of Beaufort County.
He has often been the voice of reason looking for the best solutions for the people he represents. He did not seek recognition or to advance his own political career. He listened to people and supported what was right for all concerned.
As former director of the Beaufort County Disabilities and Special Needs Department, I saw Mr. McBride take his position very seriously. He gave to this county’s most vulnerable population a voice. He was one of the council members who came to every event, board meeting or board retreat just to show his support. He did not seek to be heard but to hear, to see and to support the people we served.
I would like to thank him and encourage others to emulate his public service. Farewell to a true gentleman and one of the county’s best assets.
