Letter: Shock, outrage and an anachronism
The 2016 presidential election was the culmination of a long national obsession with celebrity rather than ability, with action and expression calibrated in terms of shock and outrage.
It also provided one more persuasive argument in favor of obliterating once and for all that anachronistic abomination, the Electoral College. There remains one faint hope: that a few of the electors will hear the voice of conscience and cast their votes on Dec. 19 for the candidate who won the popular vote on Nov. 8.
