Letter: We’re left with shame, fear, remorse
I have a dreadful sense of shame for our country for having elected as president a person who is absolutely unqualified; who is openly bigoted, racist and xenophobic; who repeatedly demeans women, minorities, religious groups and the disabled; who is a con man, a bully, a philanderer; and whose own political party reproved and rejected his candidacy.
I also have a dreadful sense of fear that the leadership of our country rests with a person who claims knowledge of and influence in foreign affairs which is wholly unfounded, and that he has no experience with or understanding of democratic governance. Also his public persona is frequently irrational, without any credibility, even vulgar.
I expect there will be much voter remorse when Donald Trump cannot make good on his baseless campaign promises of jobs and economic security, quick fix health care, immigration reform, and making ISIS go away.
Candidate choice should be made on merit, on experience and substantiated policy and program plans, and, yes, should include character. That clearly did not happen. The consequences, I believe, will be dire.
