Letter: Trump delivers; GOP must follow

To borrow a quote from former President Gerald Ford, with this one amendment, “our long, eight-year national nightmare is over,” and thanks to the American electorate, another has been averted.

This election was a prime example of the perfect political storm. Donald Trump is a president for these times, for whom people across the country voted to deliver meaningful, positive change that includes them for a change.

The ironic factor in this election cycle was that despite all the class warfare and redistribution of wealth nurtured and promoted by the Obama administration, particularly rich vs. poor, a billionaire connected with the average working people who are the backbone of this country. We now have a “1 percenter” president who is the hope of common sense, Main Street voters.

When Trump avowed, to the disbelief of his own party, that voters and states would be drawn into the Republican column by his message that had never been there before, he delivered. The fear that this “unqualified outsider” would drag the Republican Party down with him was was not delivered.

His vilification by the GOP beltway cabal has been silenced. Republicans have everything on their wish list and the opportunity to undo the damage of the last eight years and supplant it with workable solutions. If they do not, their sweep will have been a political aberration for them.
