Letter: We should applaud Oath Keepers

I read with disgust the recent article from The Washington Post about the Oath Keepers. It tried to paint the Oath Keepers as some far-right militia with the obvious liberal, left-wing slant that inferred the Oath Keepers might be interfering with the then-pending election.

Since the headline stated “militia group,” anyone could make that assumption. This writer is so far off the mark as to be laughable, and how he keeps his job is beyond me. But considering he writes for one of the most liberal papers in the country, I should not be surprised.

The Oath Keepers, according to him, is comprised of former law enforcement and military personnel, while in actuality it is comprised of both active and former members. He couldn’t even get that fact right. He probably talked to other liberal hacks who also don’t know what they are talking about.

Do the Oath Keepers take an oath to “defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic”? Yes. Have they taken up arms against any laws or government actions they believe to be unconstitutional? No. But if you read this attack piece, you could get a different idea.

In case the left has forgotten, all of Congress takes an oath to “defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign or domestic.” Do the politicians actually adhere to their oath? Perhaps if they did our country would not be in such peril.

It sounds like we should be applauding the Oath Keepers, not denigrating them.
