Letter: Random thoughts on hurricane
Some random thoughts about the hurricane:
I am miffed the storm forced the cancellation of our 40th wedding anniversary trip.
The pundits were wrong saying the storm would follow the Gulfstream.
I am amazed the spit of land before the bridge to Hilton Head Island sill exists.
Gov. Nikki Haley made a good call in evacuating people early.
Kudos to the town and plantations for doing a wonderful job of getting the roads cleared in record time.
Kudos to those who stayed and drove around showing people their homes on Facebook.
Hurricane straps on homes worked well. Little, if any, roof loss was caused by wind.
Boarding up windows was not necessary, especially if you are off the beach.
Saltwater storm surge was only evident on one the 100 losses I saw, including five beachfront homes.
The flood maps were largely wrong for a Category 2 storm, which is a good thing.
Lagoon flooding caused the bulk of surface water flooding. Weren’t they supposed to help prevent that?
Pine trees caused the bulk of the property damage. Maybe we should rethink the tree policies.
Oak trees appear to have caused more of the debris volume.
I could get used to having no more tolls.
I kind of like the new open and airy look of the island.
