Letter: Locals outshine callous disregard
My daughter and family live in the greater Seattle area, a known bastion of liberal/progressivism. She sent me a link to a story published in the Seattle Times: “Residents of ritzy Hilton Head Island happy to be alive.” This trashy headline was published Oct. 8 at 9:04 a.m., about four hours after the peak of Hurricane Matthew here.
This may seem like an inconsequential thing but it infuriated me to think that a newspaper could have such callous disregard for fellow Americans. Now, I know they are Obama and Hillary devotees and revel in the thoughts of a “natural redistribution of wealth,” but I think this is a clear display of the dissonance and lack of compassion in American society today, as promulgated by Obama and Clinton.
I note with disdain that neither Obama, nor any member of his regime has bothered to visit the devastation. The storm was hardly mentioned by the national news media and it took FEMA three weeks to agree to help with all storm damage removal.
Also, in the dreadful presidential debate one day after the storm, neither of the worse two candidates in history mentioned the catastrophe. Clinton could have said, “Matthew’s gone, so what difference does it make?” Trump could at least have said, “Here is an opportunity to make money.”
I personally am proud of how the people and state and local government have handled this terrible storm.
The South will rise again.
