Letter: Salute the public safety efforts
I am writing to give high praise to many aspects of public safety in connection with Hurricane Matthew.
As a retired county commissioner from Charles County, Md., I served on the Board of Public Safety and the Board of Fire and Rescue. As widow of a Washington, D.C., police lieutenant, mother of a D.C. battalion chief and D.C. fire captain, yes, I know public safety.
The following groups deserve the highest thanks and praise from all of us.
Toby McSwain and his staff with Sea Pines Security.
Beau Barnett and his staff with maintenance in Sea Pines.
Town of Hilton Head Island Fire and Rescue Station 2 in Sea Pines, and all those who were detailed here. It is the oldest fire station and most difficult to get to after the storm. Also, all who answered my son’s Facebook shout out to get information.
Town Councilman Tom Lennox and Town Manager Steve Riley, for keeping us so informed.
Last but not least, to Beaufort County Sheriff P.J. Tanner. His department is not just on contract to the Town of Hilton Head Island, it works for the entire county. I have toured the communications center in Beaufort and know it is top of the line, with a special room for hurricane safety during an event. Thank you, sheriff and staff.
I have friends who have had terrible outcomes to the storm. We all are pulling together to help each other.
