Letter: Strong Seahawks set great example
Living on Hilton Head Island and choosing to stay during Hurricane Matthew was a positive choice we made. Knowing firsthand the destruction in our neighborhood as well as our surrounding neighbors was daunting and surreal, yet very humbling. Starting our cleanup immediately after Hurricane Matthew was crucial and, even though there was no water, electricity, or our comforts of habit, it was calming in a sense.
Our POA sent an email out to our neighborhood saying the Hilton Head Island High School football team would love to offer its services for anyone who needed help to clean up after this storm. I immediately reached out to coach B.J. Payne regarding my friend who just came back home to see the debris in her yard. He immediately responded with his team on deck, ready to pitch in — and did they ever. She was brought to tears of joy.
Thank you to Coach Payne and his great example of how we all pull together and help each other in this time of need. Having a son who is an Eagle Scout, it’s refreshing to see the young generation pitch in and helping one another. Sometimes these children don’t get the credit they deserve. However, they have a great role model in Coach Payne. Thank you to the team for its assistance in making others lives better.
