Letter: Proud and thankful on Callawassie Island
Like many fellow residents returning from six days of evacuation for Hurricane Matthew, we arrived back on Callawassie Island after the lift of the governor’s mandatory evacuation order on Monday to find no electric power and downed trees everywhere.
Life on our beautiful sea island remains hopeful and grateful, thanks to the incredibly dedicated efforts by Jeff Spencer, manager of the Callawassie Island Members Club, and Chief Waverly Patterson, manager of our POA, who stayed on site and contracted with multiple disaster-relief teams to prioritize and manage our hurricane issues.
We’re doing so well on Callawassie thanks to these men that on Friday, Oct. 14, a long-planned wedding was held. Blessings be to our very special management teams and our employees — we are so proud of you all.
