Letter: RIP to the GOP
An astute observer noted that the death of the Republican Party actually occurred on the evening of Obama’s inauguration — 15 top Republicans agreed to kill his agenda in every way possible. Senate leader Mitch McConnell followed that their party’s sole objective was to destroy his presidency.
Seemingly they succeeded. Their total efforts were spent attacking everything Obama — health care, the existence of climate change, immigration fixes, gun legislation, a Supreme Court justice, and federal judges required to operate our government. Nine investigations on Benghazi were fruitless. In contrast, little time was spent examining the unending catastrophe of Iraq, undeniably the result of George W. Bush/Dick Cheney whacky ambitions.
Fast forward to today’s election run-up. While most any Republican candidate would have been handed keys to the White House, the collapse of the party resulted in a buffoon as a candidate, totally unqualified and dangerously unsuited.
The party is deeply fractured. An overhaul is possible if they can agree on who/what they stand for. They’re on the wrong side of every issue demanded by most Americans. Coincidentally, President Obama’s popularity is soaring and global data indicates the great respect he commands internationally.
The clock has run out for these dead-enders. Continuous, humdrum, mean and meaningless attacks, even if backed by mountains of cash, won’t fix it. RIP to the GOP. One day the sun may rise again for the party … or maybe not.
