Letter: Presenting diverse views important
Readers often write notes that are highly critical (to say the least) of various editorials and edgy cartoons that you publish.
But a recent letter praised the paper for presenting a diverse few of current events and opinions. I’m definitely in that camp. I think the paper does an excellent job.
More than 20 years ago, my wife and I were vacationing on Hilton Head Island. I would walk out each morning to buy the Packet and a cup of coffee. I was impressed that a community this size could support a daily paper with such comprehensive coverage of local, national, and international news. My wife wrote for a weekly local paper in the Philadelphia suburbs so we had more than a little interest in the comparison.
By the time we headed for home, we had decided we wanted to move to Hilton Head (Moss Creek more accurately). So we subscribed to the Sunday edition and had it mailed to Pennsylvania. It provided lots of real estate information, and it allowed us to feel like we were becoming members of this lovely community before we ever moved.
We love printed media. With younger people no longer reading, newspapers across the country are struggling — or folding. If we want our paper to continue, we had better support it. My wife and I start every day with our Packet. The only problem we have is who gets the puzzle page first.
Keep up the good work.
