Letter: Charlotte shooting story slanted

Sorry, but we’ve seen the video that is the subject of your headline that read: “ ‘Don’t shoot him,’ wife pleads on video.”

The wife’s cellphone video also proves police shouted “Drop the gun!” at Keith Lamont Scott several times before he was shot after exiting his vehicle.

The fact that “police shout at him to drop his gun,” is buried in the fourth paragraph of The Washington Post story with no mention of the several times that occurred. Further, the story is salted with phrases such as “according to police,” and “police say,” with no further mention of the several commands to “Drop the gun!”

Anyone who actually watches the video would conclude that the headline and article are slanted in such a way as to promote the idea that Scott’s death was unjustified. We understand that the Packet can’t afford to do its own reporting on national news, but perhaps the headline writers ought to view the video that is the subject of the story before minimizing the several police orders to “drop the gun!” And journalists wonder why the media is distrusted.
