Letter: Charlotte already had problems

Many years ago (2009) the History Channel ran a video on the gangs of Charlotte, N.C. If you want to know why some people in Charlotte may be anxious, and perhaps quick on the trigger, you may wish to view the videos on the Hidden Valley Kings gang — at one time 500 strong — one of 150 gangs in Charlotte, per the U.S. attorney. Charlotte has a crime rate much higher than the national average.

So, the positive image of Charlotte that we Hilton Head Islanders may hold by virtue of it being a banking center and airport hub may be distorted to some degree. In fact, if you are troubled on each Monday by hearing the news from Savannah, just imagine what the siege mentality might be in Charlotte — yes, it doubled in size in two decades and quadrupled in problems.

The most recent articles indicate a reemerging of Hidden Valley gangs. God help the good people in Charlotte, of whatever ethnic background or race.
