Letter: Excuse this wee change in golf
As a participant of the rewarding or frustrating game of golf over the past half century, I have come to the conclusion that we (with apologies to the Royal and Ancient, PGA and golfers worldwide) have got to change the name of the game.
It is a very rare day that all goes well for 18 holes. Too often, when we slice/hook a shot or miss a putt, we turn to a friend or opponent and give some feeble reason for our failure such as “my grip was too strong” or “I completely misread the contour of the green.”
And so ... I suggest, with tongue in cheek, we rename our beloved game “excuses.”
