Letter: National issue hits home

In response to the reader lamenting the fact that stories in the local paper are not always about local inhabitants, I must express our surprise and delight when we opened the Sept. 9 edition and saw a picture of our own daughter, Caiti Riley, an amputee since age 4.

Although she currently lives in San Antonio, Texas, her roots run deep, as her dad and I live and work in Beaufort. The article highlighted the huge variability in insurance coverage for amputees, children with autism, and others with ongoing medical conditions, and that, unfortunately, is a national issue.
