Letter: Yes, Donald, the system is rigged

Donald Trump is right, the system is rigged.

The system is rigged so that children like the young Donald Trump, whose fathers are multimillionaires, can attend the most elite schools and colleges without having to take out a loan. So unlike most college graduates, these children emerge into the world of work debt-free and exceptionally well-connected.

The system is also rigged so that young men and women like Donald Trump can get a starter grant of millions of dollars from Dad and can use Dad’s connections to get business opportunities most people never see.

The system is further rigged with special tax gimmicks and deductions so that investment tycoons and real estate moguls like Donald Trump pay taxes at a rate far below that of the average wage earner.

The system is additionally rigged so that when projects of economic giants like Donald Trump go bankrupt, the culprits are able to escape with their millions intact, while the thousands of little people who depended on them find their lives ruined financially.

The system is rigged in one more very important way so that our elected leaders in Congress are completely dependent on financial contributions from multimillionaires like Donald Trump. That particular rigging guarantees that the rules of the economic game are always written in favor of the super-rich.

And now, in flagrant contradiction to his whole life experience, Donald Trump is campaigning as the advocate of the common man. That joke is not funny.
