Letter: GOP must support Trump

A recent column questioning the whereabouts of “Never Hillary” Democrats resonated with me.

As a lifelong “R” voter, I’m thoroughly disgusted with my party’s leaders, a number of whom made public their non-support of Donald Trump, making his possible path to the presidency more difficult and unlikely to be successful. Nice going, guys.

I believe the answer to writer Marc Thiessen’s question is the unfortunate difference between “D” and “R” voters, “D” voters eventually unite and vote for their party’s nominees; many “R” voters do not, either abstaining or voting “D” or third party.

Democrats (candidates and voters) are single-minded: win and retain majority power. They would prefer to wield power with the nation in shambles than to function as minority party in prosperous times. Dishonesty by any candidate isn’t a disqualifying factor to “D” voters.

In power, Democrats buy votes with entitlements, they welcome immigrants (legal or not), oppose logical voter ID requirements as too onerous for their dependent voter blocs, and are now freeing imprisoned felons early (voting rights soon to follow).

Most Americans know our nation has been and is on the “wrong track.” Federal government is grossly reckless financially, as well as far too big, incompetent, and intrusive. Yet they consider Trump’s executive experience and demand for competence in rectifying governmental faults to be outweighed and wholly negated by his numerous verbal gaffes, which seem to be waning.

On the other hand, Hillary promises another four- or eight-year dose of Obama: even more government and stifling of economic growth in the private sector.
