Letter: Homeless beat sports millionaires

While visiting Savannah on Sept. 10, as we passed over the Talmadge Bridge that leads to Oglethorpe Avenue, we saw a number of homeless people living in the bushes.

I noticed that in front of some of their meager belongings an American flag was hanging from a tree. It was in clear sight of all who passed. I’m sure it stood with solidarity for all Americans as we approached the difficult day of September 11.

I couldn’t help but draw the contrast between these people who have very little in worldly possessions and whose lives must be a constant struggle, to the sports figures whose salaries are in the millions. The sports figures will take a knee instead of honoring our country, and the men and women who have fought for us, and those brave Americans who lost their lives in the Twin Towers, and also those who died trying to save others.

It is enough to make someone wonder, and cry!
