Rants & Raves: Traffic and deflated footballs

On the construction work:

Someone's head has to roll over this. It took me 2 hours and 10 minutes to travel eight miles home from (the Hilton Head Island) airport. Are you telling me they could not have fixed the potholes late at night or in the middle of the day with advanced warning? They should be fined at a minimum, a HUGE pocket-hurting fine! David Robinson

And the fact that it won't be completed for nearly 2 more years is pretty concerning considering more than half of the work has been done in less than 2 years. Garrett Novak

The pavement going through the construction site seems intentionally covered in potholes and torn up. People's cars are being damaged; something needs to be done. Dillon Lysinger

Is Chris Christie the governor of Hilton Head Island? Joshua Daugherty

We have to deal with the construction until the end of 2016 ... Lord help me. Coral Sterner

I understand maintenance was needed, but c'mon, man. Friday afternoon rush hour? Get it together guys. Mike Cruikshank

There are a whole lot of worse scenarios than that random inconvenience! Ashlee Tate-Shotwell

They should have notified everybody of the work being done. I ended up having to go to the hospital by ambulance because my husband was stuck in the traffic for three hours. Frustrated! Lisa Buechler Messmer

On the NFL scandal:

When all 12 of their balls were inspected and fine before the game and 11 of them were underinflated after the game, they had to have been tampered with. ... I'm not a Pats fan, but I think they would have won without cheating. I hope there is a major punishment for this. Kimberly Hancock Miller

The integrity of the game has been greatly damaged. It's just like Nixon ordering the Watergate break-ins and shortly after, he went on to win 49 states in the presidential election. ... The Patriots should immediately be disqualified from this Super Bowl. Ron Sherman

I think this is a great lesson to young people that if you win cheating, then you didn't really win. Brenda L. Carr

It's rather sad that instead of celebrating a win, the whole team is getting dragged through the mud! If this is anybody's fault I go for the NFL; after all, it's their responsibility to make sure everything is up to par. Lucie Svedova Pease

This did not make a difference in the outcome of the game. The Patriots were the better team, and I think will win the Super Bowl, but it was cheating, and if the league lets it go, it affects the integrity of the game. Bill Belichick is one of the greatest coaches ever, and for some reason he pushes the line and cheats. Steven Dardanello
