Woman finds dead body in freezer purchased from neighbor

A North Carolina woman will think twice before purchasing yard sale items from neighbors after she found an unwanted surprise in her used deep freezer — human remains.

“My heart was in my throat and I ran outside, called 911,” said the Goldsboro, N.C. woman, who asked that she not be identified, told CBS North Carolina.

Goldsboro Police Department said they responded to the discovery of possible human remains found at a home Friday, according to their Facebook page.

The woman told CBS North Carolina she had purchased the freezer for $30 from a neighbor. The woman said that she didn’t immediately open the freezer because that neighbor told her it was being used as a “time capsule,” as a part of a class project the seller was doing with her church Sunday school class,CBS North Carolina reports

“A church was supposed to come, pick up the items inside the freezer,” the woman told CBS North Carolina. “I was supposed to get the freezer back. The church never came. I decided to open it.

The woman who discovered the human remains told CBS North Carolina reporters that she believes it was the remains of her neighbor’s mother, who hadn’t been seen since September.

“She sold me her frozen mother for $30,” the woman told CBS North Carolina reporters. “How do you do something like that?”

CBS North Carolina reports that the woman who sold the freezer left town and said she was heading for West Virginia to be with her mother.

The remains were sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office for further identification. The investigation continues.
