A tropical wave sitting over the Caribbean Sea developed into a Tropical Storm Melissa, according to the National Hurricane Center. The system’s exact track is unclear, though meteorologists don’t expect impacts along the South Carolina coast at this time.

Melissa will continue to slow down and turn north in the coming days, likely moving towards Haiti and Jamaica by Thursday, according to the National Hurricane Center. After that point, the models offer differing information about the long term track of the storm.

Puerto Rico, Hispaniola, Jamaica and Cuba will need to watch the storm in the coming days, though there are no advisories issued for South Carolina.

While hurricane season ends in November, Tropical Storm Melissa will form as the peak, which runs from mid-August through mid-October, comes to an end.
