Following an unusual dry spell in what is typically the busiest part of hurricane season, Tropical Storm Gabrielle has formed in the Atlantic basin.

The storm is not expected to affect Hilton Head or any area of the East Coast in the coming days, according to the National Hurricane Center.

According to a newsletter from hurricane expert Michael Lowry, the storm will likely turn away from land before reaching the United States and won’t pose any threat. Current forecasts show the tropical storm will gradually strengthen into a hurricane late this weekend or early next week.

Gabrielle is the only named storm in the Atlantic Basin at the moment. There are two tropical waves off the coast of Africa, both of which the National Hurricane Center says have a 20% chance of cyclone formation over the next week.
