Hilton Head bridges will remain open as Hurricane Ian passes through, officials say

All bridges onto Hilton Head Island will stay open as Hurricane Ian moves across the South Carolina Coast, the town confirmed Thursday afternoon.

While traffic will be allowed both ways, town officials urged drivers to stay aware of weather conditions and not use the bridges unless necessary if sustained wind speeds exceed 35 mph.

“With tropical storm winds ... in the forecast, the safest place to be is indoors,” the town tweeted.
