Savannah bridge is still open after planned closure Thursday morning
The Georgia Department of Transportation announced the Savannah bridge connecting Georgia and South Carolina is still open to motorists after previously planning to close the bridge starting Thursday morning.
On Wednesday, GDOT announced the Talmadge Memorial Bridge would shut down Thursday at 9 a.m. due to possible high winds from Hurricane Ian, which made landfall in Cayo Costa, Florida yesterday.
The agency is continuing to monitor weather condition, according to a GDOT press release, but the bridge is still open to traffic due to favorable weather conditions and “the forecasted path of Hurricane Ian.”
Two other bridges will remain closed. Sidney Lanier Bridge on U.S. 17 is closed to vehicular traffic, and the Houlihan Bridge will be closed to maritime travel but open for drivers.
