Disturbance in the southern Atlantic may become a tropical storm
A low pressure area roughly 1,000 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands has a chance of developing into a tropical storm over the next several days, the National Hurricane Center reports.
The weather system is currently responsible for disorganized showers and thunderstorms, but has a 20 percent chance of developing into a tropical system in the next two days and a 40 percent chance in the next five.
Conditions in the southern Atlantic are such that the system should see some development before it reaches the Lesser Antilles, though how much it will develop and the track it might take if it does are unknown at this time.
On Monday afternoon an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance plane is set to investigate the disturbance, if needed.
