FEMA warns of imposter scams as inspectors arrive in Beaufort
Federal Emergency Management Agency inspectors are warning about scams upon their arrival in Beaufort County.
Inspectors have started damage assessments and inspections for individuals who have applied for assistance, according to a release.
Inspectors will always have proper identification, which includes a prominent photo ID badge, and will never ask for any form of payment, the release said.
“Unfortunately, disasters often bring out criminals who prey on the needs of disaster survivors — so beware of scams and scam artists,” the release said.
Anyone suspecting a FEMA imposter should contact the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office at (843) 524-2777.
