At last! Harbor Island lifts boil water advisory

Harbor Island lifted its boil water advisory Wednesday.

The island’s was the last in effect in the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew.

Residents should flush one water fixture such as a faucet for five minutes, then all other water fixtures for one minute before using any water, according to news a release from Harbor Island Utilities.

Ice makers should be flushed at least twice before use.

Customers may smell chlorine in the water temporarily. That is the disinfectant added to ensure there is no bacteria in the water, the release said.

On Hilton Head Island, advisories and use restrictions have been lifted for all three water utilities.
