Hilton Head construction permits limited to hurricane repair work
For the next 30 days, new construction permits in the town of Hilton Head Island will be restricted to emergency repair work resulting from Hurricane Matthew, according to a notice issued by Chris Yates, the town building official, and Teri Lewis, the town land-management ordinance official.
Other than emergency repair work related to the hurricane, applications for construction permits and other development approvals will not be accepted, and review of existing permits will be suspended, the notice said. The action took effect Thursday.
After 30 days, town staff will decide whether the town is “in a position” to accept new permits and resume reviewing existing permits, the notice said.
