All South Carolina shellfish beds will be closed at noon on Friday in advance of Hurricane Matthew.
“This precautionary action is being taken because of the likelihood of the occurrence of heavy rainfall and storm water runoff as a result of the storm,” according to a news release from the S.C. Emergency Management Division.
The beds will “remain closed until evaluated and re-opened by” S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control, the release said.
