Severe thunderstorm warning for Beaufort, Jasper counties expires

The National Weather Service severe thunderstorm warning for Beaufort and Jasper counties expired at 6:45 p.m. Friday, after a series of strong storms swept through the Lowcountry.

Considerable damage to trees, mobile homes, roofs and out buildings was expected, the National Weather Service said. 70 mile-per-hour wind gusts and hail were also predicted.

Torrential rainfaill led to flooded roadways and downed trees, according to reports on social media.

An earlier warning for Colleton County expired at 5:45 p.m.

More than 7,000 power outages had been reported in Beaufort County by Friday night, according to the SCE&G outage map.
