Severe thunderstorm, 60 mph winds and lightning hits Hilton Head area Tuesday evening

Severe thunderstorm impacting Beaufort, Jasper and Chatham counties Tuesday evening.

Winds reportedly hit 60 m.p.h with small hail in areas near Hardeesville, according to Jasper Emergency services.

Jasper County issued the storm was a severe threat while Beaufort indicated it will cause a moderate threat.

Throughout Bluffton, ground strike lightning lasted for nearly an hour with the corrresponding claps of thunder.

National Weather Service issued a minor flood advisory with in affect till 8:15 this evening in areas of Beaufort County, Jasper County and areas of Southeast Georgia.

Wednesday’s forecast

According to the National Weather Service, Wednesday will see, “Showers and thunderstorms. High near 89. Northeast wind 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.”
