How much rain fell last night, and will it stop? Hilton Head, Bluffton, Beaufort and Port Royal forecast
At least for the first part of Memorial Day weekend, visitors and locals will be swapping beach chairs for the couch and pickleball for card games, with Hilton Head being hit the heaviest.
There is a high surf advisory, small craft and gale warning and rip current statements along the coast until 8 p.m. tonight, according to National Weather Service Observational Program Leader Dwight Koehn at the Charleston station.
In the past 24 hours, here is how much rain fell, according to Koehn:
- Bluffton — 1.5 inches
- Beaufort and Port Royal — 1.73 inches
- Hilton Head — 1.64 to 2.77 inches
In Hilton Head, high tide will be 5.1 feet at about 3 p.m. In Beaufort, high tide will be 6.3 feet at about 3:40 p.m.
Koehn advised travelers to take extra precautions.
“Be aware of wet road conditions and increased braking distances and not to follow closely and avoid high speed,” he said.
He said the rain will taper off throughout Beaufort County from 8 p.m. to midnight Saturday.
“(It’s) moving north slowly and we’re expected to see wind and rain associated with it off and on throughout the day today and that tapers off this evening,” he said.
