Heat advisory in place for Pee Dee until Friday evening

A heat advisory was released by the NWS Wilmington NC on Friday at 2:20 a.m. valid between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. The advisory is for Myrtle Beach area, Inland Georgetown, Coastal Georgetown and Conway as well as Marlboro, Darlington, Dillon, Florence, Marion and Williamsburg counties.
The NWS informs, "Heat index values up to 109 degrees expected."
"Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses," explains the NWS.
This advisory is in effect until 8 p.m.

- Stay hydrated: Make sure to drink plenty of fluids.
- Stay in an air-conditioned room.
- Avoid direct sun exposure: Protect yourself and check on vulnerable relatives and neighbors.
- Child and pet safety: Never leave young children and pets unattended in hot vehicles - car interiors can reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
- Be cautious outdoors: Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside.
- Time your activities wisely: When possible, reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Familiarize yourself with warning signs: Know the symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.
- Stay cool with clothing: Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. In an emergency, call 911.
