UPDATE: Beach hazards statement affecting Myrtle Beach area and Coastal Georgetown Tuesday

On Monday at 8:04 p.m. an updated beach hazards statement was issued by the NWS Wilmington NC valid for Tuesday between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. for Myrtle Beach area and Coastal Georgetown.

The NWS informs, "Strong south to north longshore current."

"Longshore currents can sweep swimmers and surfers into rip currents, piers, jetties, and other hazardous areas. It may sweep swimmers off their feet, making it difficult to return to shore," comments the NWS. "Caution should be used when in or near the water. Check with lifeguards before entering the ocean for possible hazards you may be swept into."

This statement is in effect until Tuesday at 8 p.m.
