Beaufort County heat advisory extended, flash flooding possible

The Lowcountry felt some relief on Tuesday from the extreme heat wave passing through the Southeast, but it’s not over just yet.

The heat advisory for Beaufort County was just extended to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with the extreme heat wave projected to stay until end-of-day Thursday, according to the National Weather Service’s Charleston office.

Areas of Beaufort County and Savannah can expect to see heat indexes, or feels-like, temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Farhenheit into Thursday evening.

As thunderstorms pass through late Tuesday afternoon, residents are advised to be on the lookout for flash flooding in areas with poor drainage. Several showers and thunderstorms are forecast to hit the Lowcountry, some with torrential rainfall.

These storms could result in 1 to 3 inches of rain over a few hours. They are expected to continue through the evening but pass through by midnight, according to the NWS.

Storms and showers are possible late afternoon on Wednesday and Thursday as the heat persists.
