Beachgoers will need to keep an eye on the skies this afternoon as showers and thunderstorms are headed to the area.

The thunderstorms will arrive in the area between 4 and 6 p.m. The main hazards include damaging winds, lightning, hail and possible localized flooding.

It’s possible that wind gusts above 60 mph could blow down trees and power lines, leading to scattered power outages. There is also a risk of lightening that could affect outdoor activities. Hail as large as a half dollar coins could also fall in the most intense storms.

Rainfall could also lead to some minor flooding of low-lying areas and places with poor drainage.
