Beaufort police share road conditions list. Miles of routes remain ‘covered’ in snow, ice

As the Hilton Head Island area entered its third day of snow Friday morning, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office echoed its warning once again: Stay off the roads.

In a Nixle alert sent just before 5 p.m. Thursday morning, the agency shared observations of local travel conditions from on-duty deputies. Dozens of routes and miles of roadway were still covered in snow and ice, they say.

With forecasts predicting highs in the mid-40s Friday afternoon, road conditions should improve throughout the day. But the sheriff’s office is once again worried about melted snow turning back into ice as Saturday morning temperatures dip back below freezing, department spokesperson Master Sgt. Danny Allen said.

Beaufort County residents can also view current road conditions via the county government’s traffic cameras.
