Lightning struck four times in Beaufort County Sunday night, 2 houses hit
Sunday night’s severe thunderstorm brought four strikes across the county, hitting two houses, a transformer and knocking down a tree, according to the national weather service.
One strike in Beaufort knocked down a tree at 1613 sunset circle north at around 9:23 p.m. It’s unknown if the tree is still blocking the road, but it was blocking traffic at the time 911 received a call.
The other strike in Beaufort struck a transformer at 1205 Duncan Drive at around 10:28 p.m. Power was affected for several hours according to Ross Vezin, Public Information Officer for Beaufort Fire.
According to information provided by the weather service’s website, there we re no strikes in April and May and only one in June on Fripp Island.
However, four strikes in one night isn’t necessarily unique during this time of year, in the part of the country, according the national weather service.
In Bluffton, a house at 6 station loop was struck at about 9:23 p.m. No damages were found outside of a charred electrical outlet, according to Stephen Combs, Public Information Officer for the Bluffton Township Fire Department.
On Hilton Head, a house was at 19 Brigantine was struck at about 9:54 p.m.
Hilton Head fire officials did not respond with more information by deadline.
