Beaufort County forecast calls for sun, but showers will mix in. When will they appear?
Weekend weather
After a mix of stormy weather and with many locals still picking up branches from the midweek winds, a new front will slip down into the region Friday night and stall, bringing with it slightly cooler and less humid air. Some showers and thunderstorms will continue to impact the region through the weekend but largely will stay south of us here in Beaufort County.

A 30% chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4 p.m. Mostly sunny, with a high near 88.

Boating
From the NOAA forecast, expect Saturday west winds of 10-15 knots, becoming SW at 5- 10 knots in the afternoon. Seas expected to be 2- 3 feet. On Sunday and Monday, expect wind from the south at 5-10 knots and seas to average 2 feet.
Saturday’s high tide of 5.5 feet will happen at 8:16 a.m. with low tide coming at 2:11 p.m.
Beach and surfing
Saturday will feature a mix of sun and clouds as the skies may deliver some showers in the late afternoon. The ocean water temperature is expected to be an enjoyable 76 degrees. The UV index of “very high” means sunscreen is highly recommended during the peak hours of 11 a.m. till 3 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service, there’s a low chance of rip tide conditions. Surf conditions will be poor.
Things to do outside
Mitchelville’s Juneteeth celebration is Friday and Saturday; find more information online at exploremitchelville.org. On Friday from 5:30-7 p.m. there will be a drum circle at Mitchelville’s historic Freedom Park. On Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., organizers have planned a day full of live music, vendors and fun at the free event.
Across town, the Bluffton Juneteenth Celebration hosted by the Bluffton MLK Observance Committee runs from Friday through Sunday. Events will kick off Friday with a Black Food Truck Festival at Bluffton Commerce Park, 25 Buckwalter Place Blvd. On Saturday, there’s a Juneteenth Festival at Burnt Church Distillery, which also is the site for a Sunday jazz brunch. Tickets for that event are required.
For paddlers, there’s a new event coming to Bluffton’s Oyster Factory Park. “Paddle the May” runs Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. from 63 Wharf St. in Bluffton. Beginners to elite paddlers are encouraged to join in an approximately 3.5-mile short course and 8-mile long course, plus, a 1-mile fun paddle on the May River. Registrants will receive race jersey, food and beverage. Race proceeds will go to the Boys and Girls Club of Bluffton and the Lowcountry and the Bluffton Youth Theater.
