Chilly winds and rain on way. Here’s the forecast for Beaufort County’s Easter weekend
If you’re traveling for Easter, be prepared for nasty weather.
Despite a warm Good Friday, a south-bound cold front will bring chilly temperatures, windy days and wet conditions to Beaufort County throughout the Easter weekend.
The wet weekend could start as soon as Friday night with the National Weather Service predicting a 50% chance of rain and temperatures dropping into the high 50s. As the cold front reaches the Lowcountry, scattered showers and isolated thunderstorms will develop along the front.
Traveling Saturday may be unpleasant with more certain rain, a 90% chance. Wind speeds will pick up with gusts reaching up to 21 mph, and thunderstorms are possible after 5 p.m.
“The bottom line is that the weather looks uglier than your great-uncle’s late ‘70s sedan Saturday and Saturday night due to the cold and raw conditions,” State Climate Office severe weather liaison Frank Strait said in a bulletin.
Along with the rain, the front will bring below average temperatures for April.
“Saturday will feel like late January or early February, with about half the state holding in the 40s for highs, with 50s elsewhere,” said Strait. “Parts of the Lowcountry might struggle to the low 60s.”
Easter Sunday is more likely to be clear with only a 40% chance of rain. Temperatures will remain cool with a high of 58, and wind speeds will continue to increase with gusts reaching 31 mph.
But, the weather should improve starting Monday.
“The first half of next week looks much better,” said Strait. “Each day should feature a good deal of sunshine, and we’ll enjoy a warming trend with highs back in the seasonable 70s for Tuesday and Wednesday.”
