Prepare for a good soaking and some wind. Here’s the predicted Lowcountry rainfall totals
A strong low pressure system will produce widespread rain and gusty winds across the South Carolina Lowcountry Saturday, with coastal flooding and downed trees and power lines possible in some locations, the National Weather Service said.
Rainfall could become heavy at times along the coast this afternoon and evening, the weather service said Saturday morning, due to a developing band of rain showers with embedded thunderstorms.
The period of heaviest rainfall rates is expected to overlap with the high tide late this evening or early Sunday, exacerbating flooding near tidal areas.
Rainfall of 2-3 inches — with higher amounts in some locations — across saturated soils from recent rain could pose a risk of flooding in low lying and poor drainage areas, the weather service said.
Downed trees and power lines and localized power outages are possible because of gusty winds of up to 30 mph, combined with the rainfall.
And gale warnings are in effect for the South Carolina nearshore waters through Saturday evening.
